what's new?
Long Run - There is a long run scheduled for this Saturday 8/23. We will depart Springfield Library at 6:30am for Lloyd Hall on Kelly Drive and run a most scenic route. This is an out and back course so if you only want to run 4 miles you can do that or if you want to run 18 miles you can also do that. We will carpool.
Women's Distance Festival News Release - See what is new about the WDF. Cross-country training runs on the agenda. WDF News Release
Delco Book Club - Book Club meeting Sunday 8/24 at 2pm. Email Meg at this email address to get her home address. The next book selection is Flower Children by Maxine Swann.
Olympic News – Sandy Brown is happy to report that her husband Scott is heading to the Paralympics in Beijing, China this summer. He and his rowing partner (Angela Madsen) are competing with the first ever US Rowing Paralympic Team in the sport of Adaptive Rowing. Congratulations Scott!
Message Board - The club's Message Board is up and running. Please use responsibly but also use it to get your info out to the world. Have suggestions for the club? Email Bill at the Club's email address.
Mexican Night - Aribe!!! Huge success at La Lupe Saturday July 5th. Plenty of food and drink with wonderful frinds. Loads of laughs and surprisingly, many made it out to our Sunday Fun Run at 7:30 and 9:00. I guess we drank just enough. This is why I'm a part of this great club. Take an active part and enjoy it as much as I do. Thanks to Dennis Tate for organizing this event. View pictures here by clicking on this link. La Lupe
Newsletter Published - The July / August Newsletter is in the mail and online. Check it out in color by clicking on the newsletter link at the top of this page. Do you want something published in the newsletter? If so, contact Kristen Dwinnells at her email address.
Sweat It Out - Sweat It Out is a clothing company for people that exercise. This company sponsored part of our Spring Extravaganza. Club members get a 15% discount on all items. All you need to do is go to the web site at Sweat It Out. For the coupon code, use "delcorunners111".
Wanted: Old sneaks and shirts - How many pairs of running shoes do you really need. One? Maybe two? Okay, three is good, too. But what about all the others clogging your closets? How about dropping them off at Bill Battey Sporting Goods, 1 West Front Street, Media (across from the fire station). Battey’s is collecting gently used athletic shoes that somehow, someway end up benefiting the poor in Africa. Details at Perpetual Prosperity Pump Foundation. Tom Emmons at Battey’s also says he has African runners coming in to the store asking for race T-shirts and just about anything else they can get for their countrymen (and women), so if you have wayyyyy too many shirts in your drawers, bring them to Battey’s, too.
Newsletter Archive - Joe Freiberg has done the club a great service and I think you'll also like it. Many of the club old-timers have regaled me with tales of how well they used to run. Now when I talk to someone that suffers from dementia I just slowly back away while nodding my head up and down. I'm sure you've seen me doing this a lot. But some of them may have actually been telling me the truth. Check out the Newsletter Archive and relive a bit of club history. The club could use your help in adding more newsletters to the archive. If you have any that are missing, please contact Joe Freiberg.
